My interests include world religions; ritual; the intersection of culture and politics; social memory; political (and other) scandals; events and historical analysis; political communication; citizenship, migration, ethnicity, race, nationalism, and civil rights; emotion; life, death, mortality, and immortality; Weberian, Durkheimian, structuralist, semiotic/symbolic, and cognitive strands of social and cultural theory; and epistemological and ontological issues in social science methodology; with a geographical focus on German-speaking Europe and Europe more generally.
